🎧 This week on the podcast, I talked about what it looks like to redefine support, especially when you’re suddenly the only one in the locker room.
Because here’s the truth that no one wants to say out loud:
Sometimes, the team disappears.
The mentor goes quiet.
The texts stop coming.
The vibe shifts.
The support system you swore by? Gone.
And in those moments, you’ve got two choices:
Wait for the crowd to come back.
Or lace up, look in the mirror, and realize:
You can be the star player and the coach.
💡 It’s Not Either/Or. It’s Both.
Athletes are used to being part of something bigger.
We thrive in teams. We understand systems.
But somewhere along the way, we forget how to lead ourselves when no one’s cheering from the bench.
That’s the shift:
From “they’ve got me” to “I’ve got me.”
You become the one writing the playbook, and the one running the drills.
You’re pulling your own film. Adjusting your own strategy.
You're calling the timeouts—and giving the pep talk.
It’s not always easy.
But damn, it’s powerful.
🚨 This Is Especially Real for Women
We’re conditioned to be the team players.
To support everyone else.
To minimize our spotlight in the name of “balance” or “likability.”
So when we find ourselves alone: pursuing a dream, stepping out of the system, taking the unconventional route…..it can feel… isolating.
But here’s the secret no one teaches us:
You can be your own hype squad.
You can lead, design, and execute - solo.
You can step into the star role without waiting for a co-sign.
🧠 How to Be Both Coach and Star Player:
1. Set Your Game Plan Weekly
Coaches don’t wing it. Don’t let your life strategy depend on vibes. Be intentional.
2. Celebrate Yourself
Star players get recognition. If no one’s clapping yet? Clap for your damn self.
3. Self-Correct, Don’t Self-Blame
Coaches make adjustments, not excuses. Use your data, not your doubt.
4. Know When to Sub In Help
Even solo leaders need rest. Being your own coach doesn’t mean being your own everything. Ask for support when you need it.
💥 You Don’t Need a Team to Be Unstoppable
You can be in your me season and still be in momentum.
You can run the offense and still feel grounded.
You can lead yourself with clarity, compassion, and conviction.
You don’t need a crowd to be excellent.
You just need you.
🗣️ Your Turn:
Where have you been waiting for the team to show up before you take the shot?
What would change if you showed up like you were both the MVP and the head coach?
